Early Results from GLASS-JWST. XVIII. A First Morphological Atlas of the 1 < z < 5 Universe in the Rest-frame Optical

We present a rest-frame optical morphological analysis of galaxies observed with the NIRCam imager on James Webb Space Telescope (JWST) as part GLASS-JWST Early Release Science program. select 388 sources at redshifts \(0.8 < z 5.4\) and use seven 0.9--5\micron\ filters to generate $gri$ composite color images, conduct visual classification. Compared HST-based work we find higher incidence disks bulges than expected $z>1.5$, revealed by rest frame imaging. detect 123 clear (58 $z>1.5$) which 76 have bulges. No evolution bulge fraction redshift is evident: 61\% \(z<2\) (\(N=110\)) versus 60\% \(z\geq2\) (\(N=13\)). A stellar mass dependence evident, visible in 80\% all disk \(> 10^{9.5}\, {\rm M}_{\odot}\) (\(N=41\)) but only 52\% \(M (\(N=82\)). supplement morphologies non-parametric measurements Gini Asymmetry coefficients $i$-band. Our are more asymmetric local galaxies, slightly values. When compared high-z ultraviolet Hubble Telescope, JWST shows regular types such disks, spiral arms smoother (i.e. lower Gini) symmetrical light distributions.
